Threats from abroad and at home have created an urgent need within governments and industry for fast and effective solutions. The homeland security and military budgets in Canada and the United States will run into the billions of dollars this year. Participating in this market as a solution provider or subcontractor could require the possession of goods or technologies that appear on the Canadian export control list or are subject to the U.S. International Trade in Arms Regulations (ITAR).
The export control list specifies goods and services that may pose a threat to the national security of Canada if possessed by unauthorized persons. Special care must be exercised when handling, importing and exporting these items. Companies wishing to do so may be required to register with the Canadian Controlled Goods Directorate and/or the US-Canada Joint Certification Program.
Registering with the Controlled Goods Directorate begins with a threat and risk assessment for your facility. Your entire operation is examined, both physically and electronically, to discover any possible breaches. A security plan is then produced and forms devised that demonstrate your ability to properly handle controlled goods. Your staff will attend a training course in the handling of controlled goods and the escorting of visitors. An application must be filled in completely and accurately.
Avidaid can assist you in all of these areas and sit with you during your initial audit to help explain your company's security plan and readiness. We have worked with both industry and universities.
Our service doesn't stop there. Goods or technologies imported from the United States to Canada may be subject to the U.S. ITAR. Obtaining the correct licenses can be time consuming and create serious delays for a project. We can help you determine what goods might be subject to this regulation, what licenses may need to be obtained, and what exemptions you may qualify for. When required, Avidaid works closely with U.S. lawyers specializing in ITAR issues.
Avidaid Inc. is registered with the Canadian Controlled Goods Directorate.
